Dr. Soumya Makarla is an ardent Oral Pathologist, with a good acumen to diagnose Oral and orofacial pathologies. She completed her Post-graduation (MDS) in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology from Annamalai University and graduated from RGUHS.

Dr. Soumya Makarla is an ardent Oral Pathologist, with a good acumen to diagnose Oral and orofacial pathologies. She completed her Post-graduation (MDS) in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology from Annamalai University and graduated from RGUHS.


She is an academician, working as a Reader in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology in a prestigious Dental College and Hospital in Bangalore; which has been recognized as a Department of Excellence by the RGUHS.


She has a good experience of a decade or more in the diagnosis and reporting of Oral & Maxillofacial lesions. She has undergone short term training in the Department of Pathology, AIIMS, New Delhi in diagnostic Pathology. Apart from diagnostic Pathologiy, she also harbours a deep interest in the molecular basis of disease and its prognostic value.


She also has an experience working in Molecular Science and has undergone Short term training - MRDG lab, IISc, Bangalore and Department of Plant physiology, GKVK, Bangalore.


She has numerous publications to her credit in both national and international journals and has participated in several Scientific deliberations along with paper and poster presentations on National and international platforms. She was also the principal investigator for the Research Grant received from RGUHS to work on oral disease.


She has served as a Co-Editor of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (JOMFP – the official National Journal of the IAOMP) for a span of 4 years, adding to her knowledge.


She is registered under the Dentists Act, 1948, with Karnataka State Dental Council as a registered dentist and MDS Oral Pathology. She is also a life member of Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP), member of the Indian Dental Association (IDA) and also International Association of Oral Pathology (IAOP)
